10 steps to make a persuasive essay
1. Read and understand the prompt you are being assigned
- If you are assigned a topic, first analyse the prompt assigned, and decide if you are in favor or against. Usually you will be abel to decide which side to pick based on your opinion. But some times it is most convenient to pick the side that has most arguments in favor or against.
-If you get to choose your own topic, select a topic that you strongly agree, and have evidence to justify your decision. Or you can also choose a topic in which you strongly disagree. Preferably choose the one topic that you have the most evidence to justify your position.
2. Make a list of Pros, and Cons on your topic
-Make a list of the Pros for your topic. Why do you think this way? Why are you against or in favor of this?
-Try to make a list of the Cons for your topic. By doing this you analyse the arguments that people can use agains your arguments, and by knowing them you can be prepared to refute them.
3. Make a thesis statement
-This is probably the most important part of the essay. In this sentence you make the reader have a idea of what are you going to talk about in your essay.
-In one sentence you have to express your three arguments you are going to use as body paragraphs in your essay. This is an example of a thesis statement in an essay a
Ex:Smoking is bad for people because the produce cancer, smokers harm the people in their environment, smoking increases pollution.
4. Organize your ideas, make an outline
- After having a good thesis statement, you should choose the best arguments that you will use to support your idea. Once you have all your arguments you should use each argument as a topic sentence for each paragraph. Your outline should look like this;
